What will it cost?

100 pages a month

Worked out from each plan's published rate, reading the figures above as one month's work. Subscription plans read Included in the plan rather than a per-document figure: a monthly fee is not a per-document price, and dividing one into the other would need a volume no vendor publishes. A metered plan is priced past its allowance at its published overage rate; one that caps out with no such rate says so instead of quoting a price it would not honour.

Our assessment

RedactionPDF targets a common but underserved need: cleaning a PDF (bank statements, contracts, tax returns, HR files, invoices) before sending it externally or feeding it into an AI tool. Detection is rule-based rather than AI/ML — regex patterns catch emails, phone numbers, SSNs, IP addresses, URLs, credit card numbers, IBANs, SWIFT codes, routing numbers and labeled document IDs — and every match is presented for user confirmation before anything is permanently removed from the file's underlying structure (not just visually masked). It also strips document metadata (author, creator, timestamps, subject, keywords, custom fields) as a separate step, and supports 40+ languages.

Notably, it only supports text-based PDFs; scanned/image-only PDFs and OCR are explicitly not supported yet. The site is also unusually direct that it "does not provide legal compliance certification," making no GDPR/HIPAA/SOC 2 claims — a contrast to several competitors that lead with compliance badges.

Pricing runs from a permanently free anonymous tier (3 redactions/day, 10 pages, 10MB; upgradeable to 10/day, 25 pages, 20MB with Google sign-in) through a $4.99 24-hour pass (150 pages, 75MB, 30 PDFs, batches up to 5 files), a Pro plan at $7.99/month or $59/year (300 pages, 100MB, 100 redactions/day, batches up to 20 files, configurable retention, redaction history, priority processing), up to a custom-quote Enterprise tier with higher limits, API access and team workflows.

Strengths

  • Permanent removal from file structure, not just a visual overlay
  • Review-first workflow prevents automated over-redaction
  • No account needed for anonymous free use
  • Multi-language pattern support (40+ languages)
  • Transparent about not supporting scanned/OCR PDFs or claiming compliance certifications it doesn't have
  • Low-cost one-time 24-hour pass option for occasional users

Limitations

  • No OCR — scanned/image-only PDFs are not supported at all
  • Detection is regex/rule-based rather than AI/ML, so it may miss context-dependent or unusually formatted sensitive data
  • No stated compliance certifications (GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2) — by the vendor's own admission
  • Daily/monthly limits are usage-capped even on the paid Pro tier (100 redactions/day) rather than a flat unlimited option short of Enterprise
