Our assessment
Blackout is a web-based redaction product from Milyli, a legal-technology company whose redaction engine already sits behind its Blackout for Relativity plugin and several partner products. Blackout is its standalone SaaS version, aimed at subpoena responses, employment disputes, compliance requests and large-scale legal review, and at in-house and IT teams protecting business data.
Its edge is native Excel redaction. A purpose-built spreadsheet viewer lets reviewers find and redact sensitive data, including hidden content such as comments, charts and pivot tables, then export a redacted Excel file with no plug-in. Other formats are converted and presented as PDF without the team converting them first. Redaction can be manual, using several tools and styles, or AI-assisted; the vendor says detection runs on Azure Language.
Pricing is public and based on documents per month: Basic from $50 for 25 documents, Growth up to 200 documents, and Enterprise with custom or unlimited pricing and SSO. Every plan includes unlimited users and workspaces. Milyli holds SOC 2 Type 2 certification, lists SSO, MFA and audit logs as default controls, and commits contractually not to train models on customer documents.
